Interview With Logan Stieber

Logan Stieber

Team USA wrestlers recently won the prestigious World Cup for the first time in 15 years.  Unlike the World and Olympic Championships which are set up as individual bracket tournaments (similar to high school state tournaments and the annual NCAA tourney), the World Cup is set up as a country vs. country dual meet format.

In the gold medal match versus Azerbaijan, Max Effort Muscle athlete Logan Stieber came up clutch with a 6-3 victory over Haji Aliyev, a 3 time World Champion and Olympic medalist.

Max Effort: What was your mindset going into that match - World Champion vs multiple time World Champion?

“I was trying to stay relaxed and stick to what I’m good at.” In doing so Logan was able to put points on the board and improve his confidence as the match wore on. His focus was clear on simply “trying to just keep scoring points out there.”

Max Effort: You and Kyle Snyder (Olympic and World Champion) were teammates at Ohio State during your senior year when you the Buckeyes to their first ever team NCAA Championship.  How does it feel to once again be teammates with him on Team USA and win the World Cup?

“It is awesome. We have a lot of fun together. I really enjoyed watching him in college and now it is exciting to have the opportunity to be on international teams in the future.  We have been friends for a long time and typically room together on road trips.”

Max Effort: What’s next for Logan Stieber?

Logan is feeling as confident as ever heading into his next big event in just a few days, The US Open Championships. “If I win, that puts me in good position to make the world team.”

The US Open takes place April 26-28 in Las Vegas and determines the national champion at the senior level for the international styles (freestyle and greco-roman).  The World Team Trials (same process as the Olympic Team Trials in a non-olympic year) are coming up next month and the World Championships for 2018 is being held in Budapest in October.
