Wrestling Strength Tip: Banded RDLs
Coach Dustin Myers is coming to you live from THE Old School Gym to bring to you the Wrestling Strength Tip Of The Week. Dustin hears wrestlers and coaches all the time say they need to get their hips stronger my guys need stronger hips. When you are talking about needing stronger hips you are not talking about the hip flexors but rather hip extensors such as the glutes and the hamstrings stronger. So he is going to show you a great variation of a romanian deadlift or a straight leg deadlift. You are going to attach a thick band to a rack and step inside the band placing it around your hips. Start by having a good arch in the back hinging at the waste sitting the hips back getting a good stretch in the hamstrings. Go down nice and slow and come up fast squeezing the glutes forward. To finish the movement your are really going to have to use your glutes to extend at the top. If you feel like you don't have enough tension set out from the rack a step or two. Keep the reps high on these around 10-12 reps until you get use to them. Once you get use to them then you can go heavier on the weight. Give these Banded RDLs a try and let us know what you think!
